DEBATIN is diverse, and the DEBATEAM is international and diverse. It’s a simple truth, but it’s one we happen to value highly. Unsurprisingly, it’s also what the German Diversity Day is all about: valuing individual and cultural diversity, and promoting respect and tolerance. These are the values that shape DEBATIN, and we walk the talk consistently. These values matter, and that’s why we stand up for them.
This year, Germany celebrated “Diversity Day” for the twelfth time. Here at DEBATIN, we turned it into an entire Diversity Week. From May 21 to May 28 (which was the actual date of the German Diversity Day), DEBATIN celebrated its Diversity Week and participated in the #DiversityForAll campaign organised by Charta der Vielfalt e.V.
Charta der Vielfalt is Germany’s largest employer initiative for promoting diversity in the workplace, in both the public and private sector.
The DEBATIN world map: turning the spotlight on diversity in the DEBATEAM
During our Diversity Week, we hung a world map up on the canteen wall at our DEBATIN headquarters in Bruchsal and asked colleagues in the DEBATEAM (including from our site in France) to name the different countries closest to their hearts.
After marking these countries by means of pins, we also encouraged them to attach post-its with proverbs, pictures and interesting snippets of information from the respective country.
As the Diversity Week progressed, the poster thus underwent a complete transformation – from a perfectly normal world map to our very own DEBATIN world map, showing the international roots and personal stories of the DEBATEAM colleagues. Not only does it serve as a visual aid showing just how diverse and international we are at DEBATIN; it also underscores how highly we value diversity.
Diversity always entails transcending borders
We plan to keep the DEBATIN world map on display in our canteen where it can be admired not only by members of our DEBATEAM, but also by people who visit our company. Besides giving them an overview of the different countries with which our employees share a special bond, the map also contains wonderful little snippets of information – from African proverbs to facts, figures and thoughts on international cooperation.
We firmly believe that we can only grow stronger as a team and a company by mutually acknowledging and valuing our highly diverse backgrounds and experiences. By doing so, we also create an open, inclusive work environment.
We also believe that Europe can only thrive and enjoy prosperity if the EU stays strong, united and operationally functional.
