When doctors decide which treatment option to prescribe a patient, no less than 60 to 70 percent of their decisions are based on the results of clinical lab tests. This figure clearly underscores the strategic importance of lab work. But one aspect that’s often completely overlooked and underestimated is how these samples actually reach the lab in the first place. Once a blood sample (or other bodily fluid) has been extracted from a patient, how does it get from the surgery to the petri dish or microscope? Most people have never given it a second thought – and sadly, this even applies to people who work in healthcare. The very people who ought to be conversant with terminology such as ADR and P650!
Too little attention is paid to the way samples are transported!
In a recent interview, DEBATIN’s CEO Thomas Rose turns the spotlight on the logistics involved in transporting biological samples, and on compliant packaging. The interview was published in the specialist journal M&K (Management & Krankenhaus). In addition to the 25,000 copies that are printed each month, the online version of the magazine also reaches a wide audience throughout Germany and is predominantly read by professionals who work in hospitals and clinics. The interview gave us a perfect opportunity to raise awareness amongst healthcare professionals for the important subject of transporting samples safely, and also allowed us to provide some insights into Packaging Instruction P650.
Transporting biological samples in Europe is regulated by the ADR, the Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. We list and explain the salient points from this Agreement here: https://www.debatin.com/p650-info
A solution provider who understands customers’ needs
As DEBATIN’s CEO Thomas Rose emphasises in his interview with M&K, providing suitable packaging is only one of the services that DEBATIN offers. As a “solution provider”, the company prides itself on its deep understanding of the entire process – from the moment the sample is taken from the patient, until the moment it reaches the lab safely. “What sets us apart from our competitors is the fact that we’ve got to grips with the entire logistics process. This has enabled us to develop better, innovative solutions to meet the relevant challenges,” explains Mr Rose.
DEBATIN has also used its in-depth understanding to produce a whitepaper on the subject:

In his interview with M&K, Thomas Rose outlines the family-owned company’s corporate philosophy and describes the solutions DEBATIN has developed to help hospitals become greener. The interview is published in German here:
