Packaging is protection; it’s vital because goods often can’t be transported without it; it facilitates handling and enables you to dispense and divide up the contents. Packaging comes with different status levels (primary packaging and secondary packaging) and often it also comes bearing a message. Which has to be printed.

Flexographic printing is typically used for printing on packaging. It’s the method of choice for printing onto plastics (films), paper, card and cardboard. In addition, flexographic printing is commonly used to print information or logos on adhesive films and insulating paper.

Tomorrow’s packaging is an even stronger brand ambassador

Printing information on packaging (all kinds – not just plastic film) is a classic move, if not to say old hat. But the future of packaging looks VERY different – to see this, we need look no further than the advertising for the Interpack trade fair in May 2023 in Düsseldorf.

For example, there’s news about how NFC chips and RFID tags added to the packaging of medication can communicate directly with the patient’s smartphone. In practice, this gives the patient an audio version of the instructions for use, with real-time information about when to take the medicine and how much to take.

The importance of packaging as a brand ambassador (and consequently also the importance of the DEBAPRINT flexographic printing method) is something that true fruits Smoothies have nailed to a tee. The stories on their smoothie bottles speak volumes. The narratives are polarising, provocative and can even unleash internet pile-ons – or fits of laughter. Read some of the quotes on the true fruits Smoothies Facebook page!

Here’s an example to whet your appetite and prove the positives of being able to print on bottles…

“People often ask us whether Chuck Norris drinks smoothies. Of course not. He only needs to glance at fruit and it immediately squeezes itself. But have you ever asked yourself who he works for? Damn right! c.norris@true-fruits.com

Left: A True Fruits smoothie bottle filled with a red liquid rests on a wooden table. Its front label features a list of ingredients in white text, including blackberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, raspberry, orange, banana, and apple. The iconic "true fruits" logo is printed vertically along the bottle. Right: The back of the bottle displays a witty message in white text about Chuck Norris. It claims that Chuck Norris doesn’t drink smoothies because fruits juice themselves when he looks at them. It then asks if the reader has ever wondered who Chuck works for, followed by the answer: “Damn right! c.norris@true-fruits.com”. Below the text, it proudly states: “100 % fruit! That’s why: 0 % preservatives.”
