Your digital safe is accessed using an electronic “private key”. This is generated directly within the hardware wallet and never leaves the device. BitBox has a broad array of security measures ensuring that no unauthorised persons can ever access this private key, with defences in place against both physical access to the device and remote malware attacks.
Nonetheless, a hardware wallet is itself a piece of physical electronic equipment. It can get lost. It can stop working. It is therefore essential for any bitcoin owner to have a backup for long-term storage.
